David was born in 1946 in London. Although gaining sufficient GCE 'O' and 'A' levels to attend university he choose to join Legal and General at their head office in the City in 1964 working in the new business department. This, after turning down the opportunity to join Surrey Cricket Club.
After discovering a flair for interacting with people from all walks of life he became an Inspector at the age of 23 and one of the youngest promoted to this position within L & G. His sales career took him from the West End and Woolwich branches to developing the fledgling Exeter branch in 1972.
He became branch manager in 1980 before moving on to be the South West Life and Investment Account Manager. With the introduction of independent financial advice opening up new horizons in 1988 he joined Gilbert Stephens to head up the new Financial Services Department to deliver a highly personalised investment service to our clients. At that time he was the first authorised independent adviser approved by the Law Society within the West Country.
David specialises in investment solutions and, in particular, planning for the elderly in which he holds the CF8 qualification from the Chartered Insurance Institute. Without this qualification you cannot advise clients.
He married Pat in 1972 and lives in Exeter with his two adult daughters.
David has played a variety of sports to a high standard throughout his lifetime but his passion is cricket. He continues to play for Devon Seniors CC, where he is the President and for Topsham St James CC. He is a life member of both Exeter and Topsham St James Cricket Clubs, former Chairman of the Devon Cricket League and nominated in 2009 for a NatWest OSCAR for his voluntary services to cricket.
